Black Venture Investors Who Recently Made Partner or General Partner

  • The venture capital industry is overwhelmingly white.
  • But more firms are working to close the diversity gap, hiring and promoting Black partners.
  • The newly elevated checkwriters include Kamil Saeid, Nnamdi Iregbulem, and Chris Lyons.

There are more Black venture capitalists than ever before, sourcing deals and supporting founders on the journey.

But while the number of Black partners has increased in recent years, that’s due to a large portion of Black investors (54%) who splintered off to raise their own funds, according to a recent report by the nonprofit BLCK VC and Silicon Valley Bank. A smaller percentage of Black investors became partners by rising through the ranks of institutional venture firms.

To toast their success, we’re recognizing all the Black investors who took new roles or earned promotions as partners or general partners at institutional venture firms in the past 12 months. We also included people in senior positions supporting a firm’s investments, including legal counsels and operating partners.

The venture capital landscape is vast, and we may have left off some Black investors who earned promotions. Let us know who we missed — partners or GPs only, please — by contacting Melia Russell at mrussell@insider.com.
