Toronto-based Collision Conference has announced a ban on Russian and Belarusian businesses and organizations from taking part. In a statement to media, spokesperson Katherine Farrell wrote: “Collision Conference is deeply saddened by the loss of life and the ongoing tragedy in Ukraine. We stand in solidarity with Ukraine and oppose this war of aggression.”
As the crisis in Ukraine unfolds, Collision will support and act in accordance with restrictions and sanctions implemented by the European Union and the Canadian government against Russia and Belarus.
Farrell added: “Consequently, we have made the decision to prohibit all government members and agencies, state-controlled media, state-backed businesses, and companies with ties to the Russian government, from participating at Collision.”
Under the decree all Russian businesses, including public and private companies, will be prohibited from exhibiting at Collision.
At Grit Daily, a media partner to Collision and parent company, Web Summit, will continue to monitor the situation closely. As things stand, Collision will not be hosting any Russian or Belarusian organizations and businesses in Toronto this June.
