Tesco Bank has partnered with ID verification firm Onfido to simplify and speed up the signup process for the bank’s Clubcard Pay+ offering.
Customers can apply directly for a Clubcard Pay+ account through the Tesco Bank mobile app by uploading a photo of their identity document and a selfie.
Onfido uses artificial intelligence (AI) to check the ID is genuine and then matches it to the user’s face using biometric technology. This ensures the ID is not fraudulent and that the person presenting the identity is its legitimate owner and is physically present.
The company’s software development kits (SDKs) also detect glare and blurring, providing real-time feedback to users so they can submit the necessary high quality pictures for document verification as well as extracting data from an ID to autofill the application form.
“The world of banking and e-commerce has changed significantly in recent years and customers are increasingly looking for integrated, seamless experiences,” says Tesco Bank chief customer officer Sigga Sigurdardottir.
Between its initial launch in March 2021 and January 2022, almost 45,000 Clubcard Pay+ accounts were opened with more than £24 million spent across 1.2 million transactions.
