Sydney medtech Eyes of AI launches its rapid x-ray analysis this month after three years of development.
Artificial intelligence-driven dental software platform has been trained using more than 1 million x-ray images since 2019, alongside has input from leading dental clinicians and research centres globally.
Sydney-based founders Dr Sen Le and Khoa Le built the software after recognising that analysing complex radiographs manually is a major pain point for dentists and orthodontists. It can take anywhere from five to 50 minutes and can result in incorrect diagnoses and missed pathologies. Eyes of AI can complete the analysis in 30 seconds.
Dr Sen Le said the software enables dental practitioners to provide a higher standard of care, with Eyes of AI increasing the accuracy of x-ray analysis by up to 80%.
“Dental X-rays are vital in detecting and analysing conditions. Sometimes before the patient notices symptoms,” he said.
“Unfortunately, it is not always possible to identify problems by visually examining the radiographs and our research has shown that manual analysis can miss up to 54% of diseases alone. Eyes of AI increases patient trust and can reduce their fees, as practitioners pass on the benefits.”
The centralised system is available on web, allowing clinicians and patients to access results anytime from anywhere.
An additional cross-verification feature enables clinicians to verify, edit and customise reports to suit patient needs and preferences.
Dr Le owns two dental surgeries in Sydney, while co-founder Khoa Le is a machine learning expert with 15 years of experience in quantitative roles at the likes of Deloitte, Treasury and Access Economics.
The platform has been developed with support from the NSW government via a Minimum Viable Product Grant to test product scalability and onboarding the final stage Beta-testers before a national launch.
The next step is a capital raise to scale up the venture.
The other founding team member Ben Bowie is a three-time startups founder with a track record of bring early stage startups to market.
“I’m incredibly proud of our first-of-its-kind software, which has massive international growth potential and will open to strategic partners and investors post-launch,” he said.
“Our goal is to be in 5,000 dental clinics in Australia and abroad by 2023 as a leading imagery analysis solution for dental practitioners.”
