Santander appoints Pierre Habis to lead digital transformation in US

Santander Bank N.A., the US-based subsidiary of Spain’s banking group Santander, has appointed Pierre Habis as the new chief consumer and digital transformation officer.

Habis joined Santander in May 2020 as head of consumer and business banking. He has a long career in banking and finance, having worked at Wells Fargo, Bank of America, MUFG Union Bank and PurePoint Financial (owned by MUFG).

Patrick Smith has taken on Habis’ old role at Santander. He has also been with the bank since 2020, as head of small business banking. Smith brings more than 25 years of financial services experience, having previously worked at KeyBank, Capital One and Wells Fargo.

Santander is one of the country’s largest retail and commercial banks in the US, with $102 billion in assets.

With its corporate offices in Boston, the bank’s nearly 8,600 employees and nearly two million customers are principally located in the states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
