Meet ‘AIDoc’, An Israel-based Startup Developing AI Tools that can Analyze CT Scans and X-rays to Look for Signs of Trouble and Automatically Alert Radiologists

Global healthcare systems today face escalating difficulties made worse by the pandemic. According to Morning Consult, hospitals across the United States are currently experiencing a workforce shortage due to a 30 percent retirement rate and a further 31 percent considering quitting the healthcare industry. This has led to burnout and increased potential for delayed or missed services. If the current pattern holds, the United States will run out of healthcare employees by 3.2 million in five years. In addition, these shortages have increased operational costs, causing hospitals in the U.S. to experience negative operating margins for four straight months beginning in 2022. 

The Tel-Aviv-based startup Aidoc is a supplier of artificial intelligence-based healthcare solutions that enable doctors to hasten patient care and improve operational efficiency. The first of its kind, Aidoc’s AI Care Platform provides health systems with a centralized platform solution that collaborates with doctors to manage the whole patient lifecycle, including diagnostic support, consultation, proposed treatment pathways, and patient follow-up tools. Clinical trials have shown that the Aidoc AI can speed up turnaround times, cut down on patient stays, and enhance patient outcomes.

Aidoc is now claiming to bring its AI-driven clinical experience from multidisciplinary response teams and medical imaging to the entire hospital enterprise, covering the critical modalities of the different specialties, and assisting doctors in managing the entire patient care continuum. All of these are connected under the AI Care Platform. According to the business, more than 13.6 million scans have been analyzed using AI so far, leading to more than 1.6 million notifications and roughly 1.4 million triaged cases. This has also prevented healthcare practitioners from having to wait more than 133 years or approximately 70 million minutes. The program might also minimize the typical length of stay in the emergency room by ensuring patients get the proper care as quickly as feasible.

In addition to the Care Coordination application, which functions as an intelligent layer on top of hospital IT systems, the AI Care Platform already has 15 FDA-cleared clinical solutions. This gives doctors a centralized way to handle care points throughout the health system. The platform also claims to enable radiologists and other imaging specialists to identify possible time-sensitive cases and allows the care team to draw insightful conclusions from imaging data and electronic health records. By using the platform, doctors are free to spend more time interacting with patients, taking the initiative, and offering higher-quality care rather than being distracted by manual tasks, responding to incoming requests, and running the danger of letting patients fall through the gaps. 

The startup recently raised $110 million in Series D funding, bringing its total funding to around $250 million as of June 2022.
