Venture capital firm Balderton Capital has appointed former Deloitte manager Elodie Broad as its first head of impact and sustainable future goals.
Broad joins Balderton Capital from Deloitte’s sustainable finance team, where she managed environmental, social and governance (ESG) in the investment management division.
“I’ve long been passionate about the role of investors and corporates in taking accountability for their impact and driving a more sustainable future,” said Broad. “Not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because it makes business sense.”
At Deloitte, Broad helped to establish Deloitte Australia’s bushfire response and climate action programmes.
As the head of impact, Broad will be responsible for holding Balderton Capital to account for sustainability-related performance across internal operations, investment decisions and its portfolio.
It is Balderton’s latest sustainability push, with the firm publishing its first sustainable future goals report last December.
London-based Balderton Capital’s previous investments include the likes of Carwow, Citymapper, Darktrace, GoCardless, Revolut, THG, Depop and Love Film.
“I feel particularly inspired by the role and impact potential of private capital; venture capital has a huge part to play in ensuring that the businesses of tomorrow are built on sustainable foundations,” added Broad.
The venture capital firm recently supported Gen Z finance advisor Cleo in its £66m Series C.
