Depop founders’ new venture DELLI picks up €7.2M from Balderton and HV Capital

London-based DELLI, a new venture from Depop founder Simon Beckerman, announced on Monday that it has secured $7.2M (approximately €7.2M) in capital in a round co-led by Balderton and HV Capital. Both the European VCs had also invested in Depop.

The announcement comes ten months after raising €2.9M in a Seed round.

“I am excited to announce DELLI’s $7.2M raise to ignite growth further and expand its offer to makers and consumers alike. DELLI’s success over the year, from the 200 makers already signed up to the app to units sold, highlights that there is space in the market for DELLI and a consumer desire for its service,” says Simon Beckerman.

Marie Petrovicka, former VP of Markets at Depop, joined him as co-founder and COO earlier this year.

DELLI: What you need to know

Simon Beckerman, the founder of Depop – a mobile social marketplace targeted at the new generation of savvy social media users, created DELLI after observing a shift in behaviour and trends within the food world.

DELLI is an online food and restaurant marketplace targeted at food lovers and passionate makers. Beckerman created the platform to collaborate and explore the stories and culture of food as a community.

The platform also uses the “drop” model seen in fashion to sell products (where a limited amount of a new product is quickly released) to help build excitement around each product.

The company also aims to combat obstacles small producers can face, like managing food waste, and cash and ingredient flow. By supporting the small producers of the world, DELLI aims to change the broken food industry.

Investor

Balderton Capital is a venture firm that backs the best European-founded technology companies. Since its inception, the VC raised $4.5B across ten funds to support businesses at both early and growth stages.

“We are excited to be backing DELLI and working again with Simon and Marie. Simon has an extraordinary flair for spotting emerging trends and building markets and communities around them. Marie is an operator extraordinaire, making them a formidable founding team. DELLI democratises food production and brings the diversity of choice of local produce to consumers. We are looking forward to the journey ahead,” says Daniel Waterhouse, Partner at Balderton Capital.
