This Israel Based Startup ‘Olive Diagnostics’ has Launched an AI Powered Urinalysis Device that Saves Patients from Having to Pee in a Cup

Chemical sticks are used for urinalysis (sort of like pregnancy test sticks, but they detect molecules in urine). People don’t want to collect, dip a stick in a cup, and then take a picture of the stick since using sticks requires a lot of human labor. Sticks are, therefore, rarely used (think about the last time you used a stick). Thanks to continual monitoring, the device can identify hundreds of diseases before symptoms appear. Heart failure, dehydration, and many other conditions can reveal the presence of diseases before they manifest. Because a person doesn’t feel ill, treating an illness at its source is considerably more straightforward, less expensive, and improves a person’s quality of life. The volume of urination, the color, the pressure, or even the time of day are all aspects of urine that stick tests do not detect. However, with passive devices, these parameters are available, providing doctors with a vast array of medical biomarkers that they can use to alert and diagnose their patients.

2019 saw the launch of Olive Diagnostics by CEO Guy Goldman and Corey Katz. The startup’s staff includes specialists in business development for the health and wellness sectors, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, data analytics, and optics. Olive KG, the company’s flagship product, is being claimed to be the first AI- and spectroscopy-based device to perform a high-quality analysis of significant parameters in a patient’s urine during each urination. This analysis is said to be completed 100% passively and without using any other accessories.

The device can also supposedly monitor red blood cells, proteins, ketones, nitrite, and pH, along with characteristics like volume, pressure, color, and frequency of urination, among other metrics. You would no longer need to bring a urine sample to the doctor’s office or mail it away before receiving the findings several days later. Olive KG is a toilet-mountable IoMT (Internet of Medical Things) device. In addition to producing real-time personal data, it uses optics to identify the chemical components in the urine. This information is delivered to the cloud and the treating physician while protected following GDPR and HIPPA (privacy and health-related regulations) criteria. Olive KG, a medical device, has earned the EU’s CE Marking from Olive Diagnostics.

Olive Diagnostics has also created an optical sensor that enables it to perform precise molecular detection with nothing more than a toilet flush. Five to seven times a day, this passive sensor enables patients to get their urine analyzed. In addition to its potential medical applications, the gadget may also benefit the wellness industry by providing crucial data on diet, exercise, and mental health that can be used to make proactive suggestions for lifestyle changes that could improve health and well-being.
