Canadian Startup SRTX Wins $1 Million Grand Prize at Startup World Cup 2022

Excitement was in the air at the Startup World Cup (SWC) grand finale event in San Francisco, California, on September 30.

More than 2,000 investors, startup founders, and corporate executives registered for this global gathering of innovators. Independent venture capital investors reviewed the final ten startup pitches and awarded the grand prize – a $1 million investment – to SRTX, a materials science technology company from Canada.

SRTX is a materials science innovator and sustainable textiles manufacturer that is developing ultra-durable fabrics and clothing using new materials and smart production systems – yielding better textiles with less waste. Other finalists for the $1 million prize included startups from Israel, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Japan, China, and the U.S. They competed in 70+ regional competitions around the world to earn their spots.

Organized by Silicon Valley venture capital firm Pegasus Tech Ventures, the competition rewards innovation, evaluating business ideas from every corner of the globe. SWC gives startup founders the opportunity to share their vision and attract financial investment or acquire new customers. Industry speakers shared their perspectives about entrepreneurship and success.

These included Kevin O’Leary, a successful software entrepreneur who is also a judge on Shark Tank, as well as Lidia Fonseca, Chief Digital and Technology Officer of Pfizer; Thomas Dohmke, CEO of Github; Spencer Rascoff, co-founder of Zillow; Sandra Lopez, VP and CMO of Microsoft; and Diane Bryant, Chairman & CEO of NovaSignal.

The Startup World Cup global regional competitions for 2023 are already underway.
