Meet the 8 ‘Media Houses’ During SXSW

This year is almost over and we are less than 6 months away from one of the biggest events in the film, tech, and music industry. I am referring, of course, to South by Southwest festival (SXSW), an event that has been taking place since March of 1987 in Austin, Texas.

With the 2020 edition being canceled and the 2021 edition taking place online, SXSW is ready to return as an in-person event in 2022. Patrons (virtual or in-person) will be able to enjoy 10 days of conference sessions, networking, screening, exhibitions, mentor sessions, competitions, music jams, showcases, and more.

While vaccination efforts have progressed, Covid-19 continues to be a major concern. As such, the event organizers will be working closely with Austin’s Public Health authorities to ensure the safety of the assistants while allowing the event to take place as normally as possible.

Austin is ready to receive thousands of people from around the world once again as all the city celebrates innovation and creativity… And 8 media houses, including us, which have joined the celebration on its previous editions might be joining, too, with side events throughout the early March. It’s time to meet them!

Fader Fort

One of the most popular and anticipated showcases at SXSW, Fader Fort is an invite-only event featuring live music performances. This 4-day party is organized by The Fader, the New York Magazine that has been covering emerging music and its lifestyle for years. Is not without a reason they liken to themselves “the authorities on what’s next.”

Fader Fort has seen multiple prominent figures of the music industry participate in it, including Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Travis Scott, Usher, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Cardi B, and many more. If you are looking to party and get to know the next generation of artists, Fader Fort is for you.

In 2020, Fader Fort was all online. Usually the line to gain access for the in-person version is around the block. While tickets aren’t live just yet, get subscribed so you can get them the moment they’re released.

Grit Daily House

Organized by Grit Daily, this 9-day event is the perfect place for those entrepreneurs looking for the “indie” or “old school” version of SXSW of yesteryear. While the content is super exclusive with brand activations and cool panel talks that emphasize the local community, Grit Daily House caters to patrons looking to know the brands of the future, or interested to keep up with the world of entrepreneurship. Based in New York, Grit Daily has become one of the top news hubs when it comes to tech, entrepreneurship, fashion, and funding. All of this experience is translated to its space in SXSW, which counts with panels and other events with some of the most influential players in the medium.

Being one of the most recognizable media outlets in the United States and the world, CNN couldn’t resist the opportunity to participate in previous editions of SXSW. While the media giant focused mainly on running themed parties, its Clubhouse was a great place for SXSW attendees to network with journalists and CNN executives… And of course, party!

CNN’s clubhouse has seen the likes of Rev. Run and Biz Markie join it, never failing to attract party-goers. While it is still not clear if CNN will be joining again now that the in-person SXSW is back, we recommend keeping an eye open for any announcement.

Uproxx House

Another event for those looking to party after a day of SXSW! This 3-night showcase is hosted by Uproxx, a digital media company covering everything related to web culture and entertainment.

This media house is all about celebrating innovation in the music and film industry. If you are looking for a night of small bites, cocktails, and partying, Uproxx House is totally worth watching for. But wait! Uproxx house also holds live panel discussions and showcases in case you need an excuse.

New York Times Showcase

The New York Times, a news organization that needs no introduction, descended on SXSW back in 2016, 2017, and 2019 for showcases that were all about Virtual Reality (VR) and Music. Once the sun set down, the NYT made sure party-goers had enjoyed the night after a day of panels, interactive experiences, and networking.

It is still not known if the New York Times will be joining this edition of the SXSW but if they do, you are probably going to want to be there. This showcase has demonstrated being at the forefront when it comes to creating unique experiences for its participants, all while keeping it stylish and professional for those looking for something a bit less casual.

Fast Company Grill

Fast Company has become one of the biggest business media brands and has been taking all of its love for innovation, creativity, and design to SXSW for over a decade. The exclusive event opens its doors for 4 days to tech-savvy attendees looking for panels, demos, and interactive experiences… As well as lunch and drinks!

If you feel like you did too much partying and are looking for a more relaxed but still fun showcase, you might want to check out the Fast Company Grill.

Inc. Founders House

Another business media giant also based in New York, Inc. participated in the 2019 edition of SXSW and was planning to do it again in 2020 before it got canceled.  The event was aimed at entrepreneurs looking to start and grow their businesses through networking and compelling talks.

If breakfast tacos, inspirational talks, networking, cocktails, and star entrepreneurs are your thing, you should keep an eye open for any announcements regarding SXSW Inc. Founders House 2022.

Mashable House

The 2018 Mashable House will warp you into another dimension
Mashable House.

This 3-day event has seen the likes of Hulk Hogan and Cory Booker join it in the past… As well as internet celebrity Grumpy Cat! Ran by Mashable, the international media company covering digital culture, it is one of the most popular showcases of SXSW.

If you are looking to find out what the internet would be like in real life while also having fun and having an interactive experience around a key theme that changes each year, you might enjoy Mashable House. While Mashable hasn’t announced if it will be hosting the event this year, it is highly likely they will be joining again. Trust us, you don’t want to miss out if you consider yourself a full-fledged netizen!
