Brave Care Secures $25 mln In Funding To Improve Pediatric Care

Brave Care, a Portland-based pediatrics startup, has raised $25 million in Series B funding to expand its pediatric healthcare and technology platform.

The funding round was led by Mednax and brings the total funding raised by the startup since 2019 to $42.9 million. As a result of the round, Mednax’s Chief Development Officer, Dr. Jim Swift, will be joining Brave Care’s Board of Directors. Mark S. Ordan, Chief Executive Officer of Mednax, referred to the round by stating:

“We’re excited to move forward with our partnership with Brave Care. I was thrilled when I visited Brave Care clinics this past summer. We believe that Brave’s team, proprietary technology and comprehensive suite of services and operating systems will help enable us to provide an amazing continuum of patient-first care and a one-of-a-kind patient and family experience. This is another major step to solidify our focus as the leader in women’s and children’s specialty services.”

Brave Care, a Y Combinator graduate, was founded with the mission to improve pediatric clinical care by using cutting-edge technology and data analysis to better address the concerns of more than 21 million single parents who are forced to pay increasingly high prices to get their kids the attention they need. The startup has opened pediatrics clinics around the United States that are open 12 hours a day and also offer 24/7 remote care via a phone line and specialized mobile app.

It is estimated that about 37% of all children in the United States suffer from at least one health condition that requires regular check-ups, while 25% required urgent care back in 2019. Now, the startup is looking to satisfy the increasing demand by opening centers specifically designed to meet the specific needs of pediatrics care. Darius Monsef, CEO of Brave Care, said about how the funding will help Brave Care fulfill its mission:

“With this exciting investment, Brave Care is now even better positioned to open more pediatric facilities around the country, elevating care experiences and dramatically increasing the chance that every kid reaches their full potential. We created Brave Care from the experience that every parent needs a trusted partner in their child’s medical team, and that every child deserves access to excellent care regardless of their family’s financial position. Sharing this intention in partnership with Mednax, we foresee this as a clear opportunity to open over 100 new clinics in the next few years.”

With a parent’s natural concern for its children’s health, it is not unusual for unnecessary visits to pediatrics services and even the ER to be a normal occurrence. By allowing parents to easily contact a pediatrician via the app and phone service in addition to in-office appointments and emergency rooms, Brave Care is providing parents with around-the-clock care to reduce congestion in the traditional health system while addressing parental concerns in a timely manner.
