ARM Hub, Azcende VC partner on emerging defence businesses

The Brisbane-headquartered Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Hub and Azcende Venture Capital have announced a partnership they say will help secure a pathway to North American markets for emerging Australian businesses working in national security and critical infrastructure.

ARM Hub CEO Dr Cori Stewart said in a statement on Monday that the two organisations sought to accelerate the commercialisation of startups, “working predominantly in technologies that are relevant to Defence and Defence industries, including medical, transport, energy, and space to achieve their vision.

“Azcende will further support the work we do with manufacturers by providing commercialisation advice and business networks with a view to supporting export to a North American market.”

Azcende is a venture capital fund founded by Alok Patel in Brisbane, currently seeking to raise $30 million for its fund.

Its website describes it as interested in startups in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Internet of Things, Robotics/Autonomous Systems, Compute, EnergyTech, and SpaceTech, and at a “Technology Readiness Level(s) between 4-9 (but will consider TRL 3.)”

Co-founder and CEO Alok Patel said his firm would target Australian companies able to take advantage of the US market.

Patel said, “We are excited to bring global commercialisation experience combined with venture investments to activate critical and emerging technologies together with ARM Hub’s technological expertise.”
