Breaking the One-Career Mold: How Rebecca Perez Built a Multi-Career Lifestyle and Thriving

Through the influence of social conditioning, most people grow into believing they can only manage one career their entire lives and, at most, a side hustle to keep things balanced. Life is already busy enough without having too many commitments. Reports from the US Census Bureau show only about 8% of Americans have multiple jobs, and most of them can hold down at least two annually. For many people, the only valid reason to work more than one job at a time is to create multiple streams of income and stay out of debt. However, for serial entrepreneur Rebecca Perez, money isn’t the sole motivator behind her inspiringly fulfilling life enjoying multiple careers.

Embracing Limitless Possibilities

Perez is the founder, CEO, and editor-in-chief of the Goss Club and its E-Magazine, a global women’s platform aimed at inspiring and empowering women to build their own business empires and become self-made. Also a certified private pilot, real estate investor, and professional skydiver, Perez is the best-selling author of ‘101 to Ways to #BeGossy’, a pragmatic business book written specially for women. An advocate of female empowerment, Perez believes women should be encouraged to seek fulfillment and success beyond societal expectations.

“I’ve always been very independent and wanted to learn how to do everything on my own,” the hobbyist scuba diver says. “This has been a characteristic of mine since my early years and permeated into my adult years as well. I believed early on that I can be and do as many things as I set my mind to. I don’t have to live a linear life or cultivate one career – the possibilities are limitless if your mindset is positive.”

Overcoming Adversity: Turning Pain Into Purpose

Many philosophers argue that there is no true strength without a test of pain. Modern economists also claim that the most successful entrepreneurs are often people who are tested by the harshest adversities. Nobody is born with grit and determination – these qualities are acquired over time.

Perez is no stranger to life-altering struggles and unforeseen circumstances. At the tender of 14, she, unfortunately, lost both her parents to heartbreaking circumstances. The young girl was forced to become a guardian to her younger sister, even as a child herself. The pair encountered enormous difficulties living on their own, but as Perez recalls, they survived every hurdle and eventually began to thrive.

“Everyone’s going to experience some type of pain during their lifetime, but you can take that pain and turn it into something beautiful,” the New York businesswoman affirms. “We had moments of struggle and pain but that shaped me as a woman and made me want to be a better person.”

Following her unprecedented struggles, Perez vowed never to allow her experiences to define her future. She wasn’t going to let the unfounded pain derail the path of her ambition.

“I knew that no matter what, and no matter who came in and out of my life, I got me. I don’t wish this situation upon anyone, but it forced me to go deep within and find true self-love, and trust in a higher power to guide me and protect me. This way, I knew I was never alone, and I would be grateful for every relationship that came and left equally.”

Building a Global Community and Embracing Multi-Career Paths

When Perez was 23, fresh out of Canada’s McGill University with a head full of ideas and a heart full of dreams, she immediately put her newly-acquired degree in Journalism/PR and Communications to use. She wasn’t exactly certain of her moves, but she was open to taking calculated risks and learning from both her mistakes and progress.

Knowing how difficult it is for aspiring female entrepreneurs to thrive in the business world, Perez decided to build a platform where women can come together to help each other achieve their dreams through support, mentorship, advice, and inspiration. She launched the GOSS magazine and became the editor-in-chief, sharing her own ideas and giving successful women a chance to guide others and informally mentor aspiring entrepreneurs.

Five years down the line, GOSS magazine has grown into a global platform with millions of viewers grabbing copies and tuning in for life-changing advice. “With over 1M monthly views, I was able to build an audience and find my voice as a writer fairly quickly. I would always get rated #1 in my opinion piece, with 100K+ re-shares on my posts.”

Speaking on how she’s able to achieve so much at the same time, Perez believes delegation and multi-tasking can co-exist perfectly under the right management. “I have taken more of a backseat and let my Editorial team take over when it comes to interviews, and write-ups. We also have a Digital Marketing team that does everything from posting on social media to content creation.”

Following her training at an aviation academy, Perez recently received her private pilot certification and has delved into real estate and investment. She attributes a lot of her success to making the right decisions with human resources. “Every mistake, every decision, and every emotion that I faced brought me here, which was all I needed. Today, I understand the importance of hiring employees and surrounding yourself with people who can help you grow.”

Now the author of three best-selling self-development and career-building books, Perez founded the GOSS Club as a global community that provides women with all the help and resources they need to begin their journeys to becoming self-made.  “There is no one definition to #BeGOSSY but to me, it represents self-actualization and becoming the highest version of yourself in this life.”
