Binance and YGG Join Forces to Support Women in Web3

Binance, a leading blockchain ecosystem and infrastructure provider, recently partnered with Yield Guild Games (YGG), a gaming guild focused on blockchain play-to-earn games, to host a “Women in Blockchain” event in Manila. The event aimed to celebrate gender equality and empower more women to pursue careers in the Web3 industry. Female representatives from the Philippines’ Web3 space, including Prayer Trairatvorakul, Marketing Director of APAC at Binance, and Mary Rose E. Magsaysay, Assistant Secretary of the Cybercrime Investigation Coordinating Center (CICC), gathered with other female community members to discuss the global opportunities Web3 offers to women.

Binance, as an industry leader, is committed to increasing the freedom of money globally. A crucial part of this mission is fostering diversity in the crypto ecosystem to ensure blockchain reaches its full potential. The “Women in Blockchain” event, the first of its kind in the Philippines, is one of many initiatives Binance has undertaken to empower women to become crypto-fluent. Kenneth Stern, General Manager of Binance in the Philippines, highlighted the importance of providing more support for the growing number of women entering the Web3 space, stating that the company prioritizes female representation and boasts a workforce with a higher percentage of women than the industry average.

Insights Shared by Women in Blockchain

Prayer Trairatvorakul, Binance’s Marketing Director for APAC, delivered an insightful keynote, discussing how companies can encourage women to enter the Web3 industry by fostering inclusivity, leveraging existing networks, and creating products specifically for women. She shared Binance’s success in shaping careers without gender preconceptions, with many former interns now leading global teams. Trairatvorakul emphasized the advantages of working in the Web3 sector, including lower bureaucracy, which enables individuals to progress in their careers regardless of gender.

Other female speakers at the event shared their experiences working in Web3 and navigating the male-dominated industry. Mary Rose E. Magsaysay highlighted the effectiveness of women in leadership roles, noting that women manage around 70% of managerial jobs within the government. Serial entrepreneur and angel investor Myrtle Anne Ramos encouraged women to collaborate with other women in the tech space and create an inclusive world with safe spaces for everyone.

Supporting Women in the Web3 Sector

Een Mercado, gaming content creator and YGG Ambassador, advised women to carve out their own space and pursue their own paths in the highly competitive gaming industry. She emphasized the importance of persistence, creativity, and enjoyment in achieving success in the gaming world. “While it may be difficult to create content that hasn’t been done before, it’s important to keep trying and find a unique way to stand out. Ultimately, success in the gaming world comes from having fun and enjoying the competition, while also being persistent in pursuing one’s own goals,” Mercado said.

Kimberly Rocha-Delgado, Director of Galeria Paloma, urged women to seek out companies that value their strengths and ally with them in creating space for others to shine. “By raising awareness about these issues, we can work towards greater representation and equality,” she said.

Binance’s Commitment to Stronger Female Representation in Web3

In line with Binance’s commitment to increasing female representation in Web3 and reducing the gender gap, the exchange has developed its first formal internship and graduate programs. These programs provide more access to careers in crypto for diverse talent, including women. Additionally, Binance offers guidance and career advice to women through Binance Academy’s educational courses, female mentorship programs, and talent workshops, equipping more women with the skills necessary to break into a career in Web3.

The “Women in Blockchain” event in Manila is just one example of the collaborative efforts being made to support and empower women in the tech industry. As more companies prioritize diversity and inclusivity, the opportunities for women in Web3 and other technology sectors will continue to grow.
