Is Dom. Is tech: former NSW innovation minister joins Tech Council board

Former NSW innovation minister Victor Dominello has a new side hustle after leaving politics, joining the board of the Tech Council of Australia (TCA).

He will replace former Turnbull-era federal minister and TCA executive director Wyatt Roy, who departs the board next month.

TCA chair Robyn Denholm thanks Roy for his contribution in the two years since the lobby group formed.

Dominello, who delivered his final address as a minister, talking about the future of the digital economy, at a TCA event in March, recently signed on as the director of the university-based UNSW-UTS Trustworthy Digital Society Hub.

Former Queensland innovation minister Kate Jones is also on the TCA board along with the likes of Canva’s Cliff Obrecht, Afterpay’s Anthony Eisen, and Atlassian’s Scott Farquhar.

Roy praised Dominello’s appointment.

“I can think of no one more qualified for the role than Victor. He set the gold standard for digital government and will continue to bring an important perspective to the national discussion on tech,” he said.

“Having a truly bi-partisan approach is an enormous strength of the Tech Council and is something many industry organisations have struggled to achieve. Broad community and political support for the tech sector will ensure lasting policy change.”

Dominello said: “this is an organisation that has gone from zero to hero in just two years. It is leading advocacy in the tech sector and providing a unified voice on critical issues.”
