Perkins Coie Names New Venture Capital Partner in Austin (1)

Perkins Coie has tapped Valeska Pederson Hintz as an Austin, Texas-based venture capital partner, the firm said in a statement Monday.

Hintz officially joined the firm on Monday from Lowenstein Sandler LLP, where she worked for more than seven years. She focuses on technology and biotechnology companies’ complete life cycles, including corporate and securities laws, initial public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions.

“We’re thrilled that an attorney of her caliber and background has joined,” said Jose Villarreal, managing partner of the Austin office. “We continue to scale to meet client demand for our legal services—particularly in the tech sector, emerging companies and venture capital sector, and for patent and IP law.”

Perkins Coie is one of the largest firms in the U.S. by gross revenue, bringing in more than $1 billion last year across more than 1,000 lawyers. The firm announced its new Austin office in February 2020 and recently signed a lease for a office space in the city.

“What I really wanted when I was moving to Austin was a firm that was dedicated not just to Austin, but the Texas market as a whole, and also wasn’t an oil and gas company but really focused on tech,” Hintz told Bloomberg Law.

Hintz was most recently a partner at Lowenstein Sandler’s tech, corporate governance and compliance, and capital markets and securities groups.

Before her time with Lowenstein Sandler, she worked for Wilson Sonsini Goorich & Rosati and Latham & Watkins. She started her career with Cooley LLP, according to her LinkedIn profile.

“Valeska will deepen the range of legal counsel we can provide to clients in Austin and beyond,” Troy Foster, the co-chair of Perkins Coie’s emerging companies and venture capital practice, said in the statement. “We’re excited to welcome her to the team.”
