B&R Industrial Automation, an automation specialist and member of the ABB Group, will be showcasing its open systems for packaging with Codian Robotics mechanics integrated and rebranded with B&R. B&R’s machine-centric robotics system combines Codian mechanics and B&R controls.
With the combination of the two companies’ technologies, B&R can offer machine builders and manufacturers single-source robotics and automation for precise synchronization and ease of engineering, which is for implementing highly flexible packaging systems.
ABB acquired Codian, which is best known for its line of delta robots, in 2020. ABB was accelerating its engagement in the field of delta robots with the transaction.
“As consumer demand for personalized products continues to accelerate, packaging lines rely on cutting-edge automation and robotics to handle increasing product variety without compromising productivity,” Jörg Theis, President of B&R Industrial Automation, said. “With an extensive selection of pick-and-place robot mechanics open to any control platform, we are committed to offer the best solution for our customer’s applications,” adds Wouter Valk, Managing Director of Codian Robotics, which was acquired by B&R in 2020.
The Codian portfolio of delta configurations, which include hygienic models that are ideal for food and beverage and pharmaceutical packaging, is open to any control platform and can be incorporated into any machine configuration. The full Codian portfolio includes more than 100 variants.
At PackExpo, B&R will also be showing how robots work in seamless synchronization with mechatronic product transport systems like ACOPOStrak and ACOPOS 6D, as well as its machine vision systems.
