Monica Hudlt Discusses the Ups and Downs of Success on OnlyFans

Monica Hudlt is among the top 1% of creators on OnlyFans, which earns her about $150,000 per month but it takes lots of hustle and the proverbial thick skin, because as she has learned, sex work might be tolerated but remains stigmatized.

Monica Monica Hudlt, 37, was recently in the headlines of British tabloids for consenting to her husband, John, having sex with other women, which she films for his OnlyFans page. It’s an unusual career for a woman who was raised in a strict Catholic home by parents who wouldn’t let her date. She immigrated to the US in 2015 and for six months danced at seedy LA strip clubs to make ends meet while waiting for a green card that would allow her to legally work.

We asked Monica Monica Hudlt what’s good about success on OnlyFans, how people perceive the work she does, and what it takes to succeed online.

You view yourself as an entrepreneur, and from what I read you are quite successful, yet OnlyFans is widely perceived as a pornography site. Does that trouble you?

Yes and no. In the beginning I had an issue with that. Mostly because of judgement and how people would look at me, since it’s still a bit of a taboo to do adult content. Now I don’t really have an issue. Sometimes it bothers me when people are super mean online, or I get a no from companies or TV shows because of the explicit content. People don’t really understand that I’m so much more than that. I was cast to be on Masterchef and was a finalist to be on the actual show, but when they saw I did OnlyFans they said I couldn’t be on it anymore.  And that made me so so sad, because I’m a huge fan of the show and I absolutely love cooking. I also had a 2.5 million follower verified Instagram that was taken down due to having OnlyFans, even though I didn’t post anything explicit. So society does discriminate a lot against women who do adult content, which is extremely sad. So it does bother me a lot at times because I feel like that’s not the only thing I am. I’m so much more than just my nude body. Unfortunately that’s not always allowed to shine through. On the other hand I love what I am doing and only fans has given me possibilities that I would never have without them.

The British press interviewed you in recent days about you consenting to your husband having sex with other women, which you sometimes film for his OnlyFans page. Is that part of producing a steady stream of content?

So we kinda got into it when I told him that , hey why not. We are already shooting with others. Why not create his own page and dog his own content. It’s an additional stream of income and it’s definitely a fun and exciting thing to do. We have gotten a lot of heat for it, especially from Sweden. But that was expected. Not everyone will be understanding of an unconventional way of making money I guess.

You are in the top one percent of creators on OnlyFans in terms of revenue. To what do you attribute this success?

I absolutely attribute my success to amazing support from my husband and friends. On top of that, hard work and hustle. You have to be ready to work 24/7 and always try to find ways to make your page special and fun for the fans. Also I have absolutely amazing and supportive fans. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Contemporary attitudes towards adult sexuality are inarguably more broadminded than even just a few decades ago, yet there is still a stigma attached to sex work, even in places where it is legal. What are your thoughts about this? 

I think it’s really sad. We have come so far when it comes to women’s rights and sexuality, yet it’s still an issue. People will still look down at you because of what you’re doing. I had an old childhood friend say that I have lost value as a woman and I should put kids into the world, when she had a child out of wedlock and lied to the father. So there are a lot of double standards when it comes to sex. It seems like sex is ok as long as it’s not something you make money on. So you can sleep around and have multiple partners but not talk about it. I have been turned down multiple times by companies because of my line of work. Also, social media will disabled every single account that’s affiliated with OnlyFans even though the account doesn’t break guidelines. So we are being bullied by all platforms besides Twitter. Its really sad that it’s 2021 but sex work is still an issue, even though we are adults and this out of free will.

Do you encourage other women to start OnlyFans accounts? What is required to succeed on the platform?

I think everyone should do as they please. I love OnlyFans and it’s an awesome way to make money. Everyone who wants to get into the adult world needs to know that people will judge you and hate on you. But that’s because they are ignorant! OnlyFans does require a lot of work in the beginning. You need to have good social media presence and actually put work into your brand. Just starting an account and thinking you’ll make a million is not going to happen. You need to work at it and stay consistent!
