The renowned sunglasses company Oakley and exceptional streetwear brand Fragment Design are back at it again with their second collaboration this year and seventh joint venture in total. Their high-quality urban fashion products will be hitting the shelves — but only for a brief period.
Brands collaborating to make mesmerizing, limited-edition merchandise isn’t anything new. Versace’s 2018 special edition shades were a nod to how the famous rapper Notorious BIG’s love for the luxury company boosted their sales and built a bridge between music and fashion. The hexagonal glasses, reminiscent of the pair Biggie wore, sold out fast. Because of their popularity and continual success, companies are eager to make collaborations that can generate hype, reach new audiences, and stretch their respective designers’ creativity to develop something new and exciting.
These are all objectives Oakley and Fragment offer with their limited edition products — and that alone makes them worth a buy. Here’s an overview of what each brand brings to the collaboration and their newest products out today.
Oakley
Oakley is the company of choice for those with an active lifestyle. Its range of dedicated sunglasses for specific sports is vast, including Corridor sunglasses for runners, the Jawbreaker for cyclists, and the Split Shot for fishermen — each pair using superb trademarked features like vision-enhancing PRIZM lenses and lightweight O-Matter frames to enhance their wearers’ talents. It’s thus no surprise that Olympic gold medalist Kerri Lee Walsh Jennings and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson are among the athletes who wear the brand. Overall, what Oakley brings to this partnership is stellar shades manufacturing that can’t be beaten.
Fragment Design
Fragment doesn’t limit itself to devising only one type of product. Instead, it presents itself as an ever-evolving, collaborative project, partnering with brands as varied as Nike, Rolex, and Pokemon to take items audiences are familiar with and revitalize them with novel and innovative designs. Even Ben Affleck was spotted wearing its reimagined look for Nike’s Air Jordan 1 Low “Royal” in March 2023. In all its partnerships, Fragment contributes a polished, minimalist style to the products it interacts with.
Past Partnerships
These two companies have been collaborating since 2009. That first partnership produced a special pair of O Frame Goggles, which successfully encouraged a long-lasting association. Since then, the two brands have joined forces for six more product sets. The most recent collection was released in January 2023 and saw Fragment and Oakley reimagining the latter’s legendary Frogskins sunglasses with an understated design and aesthetic in mind. Monochromatic t-shirts and hoodies were also included in the collection. With those products’ success, it’s no wonder this latest collaboration is coming hot on its heels.
The Newest Collaboration
The Sunglasses
Considering their previous eyewear collaborations’ excellent results, shades were the perfect choice for Fragment’s and Oakley’s latest partnership. The newest collab features two outstanding designs: the Sutro Vented and Sutro Lite Sweep, edited subtly by Fragment. These limited edition sunglasses come with adjusted logo placements and vented Prizm Grey shield lenses that provide optimal coverage, extended field-of-view, impact protection, and retention. They also possess Oakley’s latest performance technologies—durable, lightweight frames and polarised lenses that protect wearers from UV rays, glare, and more. With these sunnies, you’ll have sunglasses that are streetwear-sleek and functional.
The Hoodie
Oakley and Fragment’s new hoodie seeks to combine cutting-edge style with remarkable utility. The fact that it succeeds should come as no surprise—Fragment’s premier designer, Hiroshi Fujiwara, has long been creating high-functioning apparel. Using a blend of polyester and cotton, the hoodie’s stretch fabric can easily and comfortably shift according to your movements. It also incorporates a Hydrolix moisture management system that promises to keep you cool and dry all day. With a Glassroots Community print in front and the two companies’ logos in the back, this hoodie shows itself proudly as a product of a great partnership.
The newest collaboration of Oakley and Fragment promises a sophisticated set of products their audiences will love. Get them while supplies last.
