When Andreas Dettlaff first had the idea for Nu Image Medical, he had no idea that he would one day be the CEO of a national regenerative telemedicine company, competing with venture capital giants HIMS and Roman. Rather, he was simply intrigued by a 60 Minutes segment featuring Cenegenics founder Alan Mintz and was curious about the potential of hormone replacement therapies.

To get started, Dettlaff approached his primary care physician in New Jersey to discuss how they might partner to enter the relatively new marketplace, in which he saw great future potential. Dettlaff brought experience in business and a strong background in technology to the table but knew that he would need to work alongside a physician. His physician agreed to the partnership, and together they decided to start a weight loss program.

Who is Andreas Dettlaff?

Andreas Dettlaff is the son of German immigrants, who came to the US seeking more opportunities for him. He grew up in New Jersey, earning his finance degree at William Paterson University before going on to The Wharton School for his MBA. He later relocated to Miami before settling permanently in Tampa, Florida. With a passion for health and wellness, Dettlaff was drawn to the health-conscious and physically active community of Tampa, which offers year-round beautiful weather for outdoor sports.

Being immersed in a healthy community wasn’t enough for Dettlaff, who also decided to pursue a career centered around maintaining vitality throughout middle age and into old age. After partnering with his physician in New Jersey, he began attending conferences to learn about the science behind hormone replacement, regenerative therapies, and anti-aging medicine.

The first program that Dettlaff and his doctor developed and offered was Wayt-less, which continues to be a top seller for Nu Image Medical today. In the early days, Dettlaff handled every aspect of the business, from customer service to marketing; this gave him full control of managing his company, and also exposed him to all customer feedback. Clients were so impressed with their weight loss results and so pleased with Dettlaff’s customer service, that he quickly knew he was on the right track.

What is Nu Image Medical?

By 2008, Dettlaff had officially formed Nu Image Medical. Thanks to their early success, he had outgrown the business model of referring patients to his doctor’s office in New Jersey. The concept of telemedicine was still new to many people, who were stuck in the habit of making an appointment, traveling to their doctor’s office, waiting to be seen, and oftentimes seeing a doctor for only a few minutes before being issued a prescription.
