Apex.AI, a developer of software for autonomous applications, announced that it received a strategic minority investment from Daimler Truck. With more than 40 locations, Daimler Truck is one of the largest commercial vehicle manufacturing company in the world.
Previous investors in the company include Toyota Ventures, Volvo Group Venture Capital, InMotion Ventures, Airbus Ventures, Continental AG, 2F, AGCO and HELLA Ventures.
Apex.AI offers a suite of automotive software solutions. The company’s Apex.OS is an end-to-end operating system for autonomous vehicles. The system abstracts complexity of underlying hardware, middleware, kernel, interfaces and drivers into safe and secure APIs. It is based on ROS 2 and won an RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award in 2020.
“This strategic investment from Daimler Truck demonstrates its forward-thinking nature by ensuring that our scalable applications continue to drive software defined vehicle development for the entire industry,” Jan Becker, the co-founder and CEO of Apex.AI, said. “Our powerful solutions are purposely designed with simplicity in mind. That’s the approach that’s changing the way companies in a wide range of industries develop their future vehicle technologies.”
In December 2021, Apex.AI closed its Series B funding round with $56.5 million raised. The round was led by Orillion. In total, the company has raised $74 million since it was founded in 2017.
Becker was recently on The Robot Report Podcast, which brings conversations with robotics innovators straight to you. Becker discussed the software and operating system needs for autonomous vehicles and how Apex.AI contributed to the success of the recent Autonomous Challenge at the CES autonomous racing event.
