Think your work can’t inspire a blockbuster movie for the ages? Think again.
Or at least that’s the sentiment of David Meltzer, entrepreneur and sought-after speaker, whom we caught up with at Propelify to talk about his own drive, something not talked about much by entrepreneurs (spirituality), and his pulse on marketing, including the latest NFT trends.
Grit Daily: For the uninitiated, what’s your relationship to the real story behind the film, Jerry Maguire?
David Meltzer: As I was running the Leigh Steinberg Sports and Entertainment agency, we were approached by the production team of the movie as they wanted to use our agency as a model for the making of the movie. It was a fantastic experience getting to work with their team and cast to create the image of what a true sports agency looked like at that time. Although I do not have a direct relationship with the real story behind the film, it’s hard to not love a modern love story combined with the incredible sports and entertainment market.
Grit Daily: If there’s one thing you want people to take away from your talks on the “speaker’s circuit” including Propelify, Web Summit and others, what would that be?
David Meltzer: Be kind to your future self and do good deeds.
Grit Daily: In negotiation scenarios you describe a “frequency.” What is that?
David Meltzer: In negotiation, the frequency that you carry is your integrity. Your integrity is your true self and the true value that you can convey to yourself and others.
Grit Daily: Inquiring minds want to know: Who are your own mentors?
David Meltzer: I believe that having at least 3 mentors at a time is essential to personal development and success. I identify my mentors by identifying the people that currently sit in the shoes that I want to be in, and simply ask them for their help and mentorship. Asking for help is one of the hardest things to do and is the #1 piece of advice to my younger self. Some of my mentors today include Jack Canfield, Tilman Fertitta, and Gary Vaynerchuk.
Grit Daily: Not often covered by entrepreneurs is spiritualism; however you discuss it. What should every entrepreneur know?
David Meltzer: Spirituality is something that has become a part of my everyday life. I believe that being connected to your true self and the abundant source of light, love, and lessons that the world has to offer is one of the common denominators of successful entrepreneurs. When it comes to spirituality, I recommend that every entrepreneur finds what works for them. Whether it’s meditating on a daily basis or even tracing calligraphy like I do, find what works for you and stay committed to the practice of continuously investing into your personal spirituality.
Grit Daily: Among technologies that 2021 is known for, NFTs have caught the world’s attention. Which projects do you see with the most endurance?
David Meltzer: Understanding the rapidly growing NFT space is something that I have turned to many of my mentors for. I believe that this market is going to continue to grow and expand through continuing to gain even more celebrities, athletes, and entertainers as ambassadors. I like the picks and shovels, like Creatify, and the authentication of the NFTs that are often overlooked.
