Cartken and Uber Eats have expanded their sidewalk delivery service to Fairfax, Virginia. The latest deployment builds on Carkten’s successful pilot of autonomous deliveries in Miami, Florida.

Starting today, Cartken and Uber are offering deliveries from select merchants in the Mosaic District, a shopping and dining district owned and operated by EDENS that is home to more than 40 restaurants. To start, Cartken will be doing deliveries from merchants like Our Mom Eugenia, Pupatella, and RASA.

“Our team at Cartken is excited to further partner with Uber Eats and expand our reach to serve the Fairfax community,” Anjali Jindal Naik, Co-Founder and COO at Cartken, said. “Cartken is at an inflection point, where we are rapidly bringing our AI, computer vision, and lidar-less autonomous robots to more places, like Mosaic District, in partnership with Uber Eats.”

Cartken’s delivery robots are autonomous but have a remote monitoring system that allows for a human to take control at any time. They’re designed for deliveries over short distances, like in malls, business parks and local neighborhoods.

”Alongside our partners at Cartken, we’re thrilled to work with Mosaic’s outstanding merchants to serve such a vibrant community of diners, shoppers, and residents,” Noah Zych, Head of Autonomous Mobility and Delivery at Uber, said. “With our shared passion for innovative urban design, sustainability, and technology, we believe that robot delivery with Uber Eats is a great fit for Fairfax consumers looking for a fun and convenient way to grab their next meal.”

Cartken and Uber announced they would start deliveries in Miami in December 2022. In Miami, the companies do deliveries for select merchants in the Dadeland area of Miami-Dade County.

Cartken was founded in 2019 and came out of stealth in March 2021, when it announced a partnership with REEF Technology to make deliveries in downtown Miami.
