Foxglove announces SOC 2 certification, MCAP plugin and more

Foxglove has continued its string of announcements, which started earlier this week with news of the company’s $15 million Series A funding round and updates to its 3D panel, with news of the company being SOC 2 Type II compliant, adding an MCAP Storage plugin for ROS 2 and adding new features to its flagship product, Foxglove Studio. 

SOC 2 is an independently conducted auditing procedure that ensures service providers manage their customer’s data securely. Foxglove’s security processes, data protection protocols and privacy controls met the criteria of the standard after undergoing an audit according to the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA) standards. 

SOC 2 evaluates vendors on five trust service principles: security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality and privacy. To remain SOC 2 compliant, the company will complete annual audits. 

Foxglove also announced that it released a ROS 2 storage plugin for recording robotics data to MCAP files. The company announced the MCAP container file format earlier this year to help robotics teams record their pub/sub data with a serialization-agnostic format. 

“We created MCAP specifically because there’s no kind of standardized open formats in the industry outside of the ROS exosystem that people were using for logging robotics data,” Adrian Macniel, co-founder and CEO of Foxglove, said. “ROS as a pretty nice, clean way of logging robotics data, and then outside of that every company we talked to was just kind of inventing their own way of recording data on the robot.”

MCAP is write-optimized, supports multiple message serialization formats, is easy to recover and fully self-contained. The company’s ROS 2 plugin supports recording, reading, converting and playing back data using MCAP.

Studio and Data Platform updates

The company also announced updates to its existing products, Foxglove Studio and the Foxglove Data Platform. It has taken steps to improve how Foxglove Studio loads data for accurate data analysis. In particular, Foxglove has taken steps to improve the experience of pausing, seeking and stepping through complex data. 

The company also announced a new events feature for its Studio and Data Platform. The new feature allows users to add metadata-rich annotations to robotics data recordings. This feature can help robotics engineers analyze large amounts of data more efficiently. 

Foxglove has already been expanding its product and go-to-market teams, and is currently hiring across engineering, growth, sales and more. Foxglove won a 2022 RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award for the Foxglove Studio and Data Platform.
