Go1’s cofounders are in the running to be named EY’s Entrepreneur Of The Year

Consulting giant Ernst & Young has named seven Australian finalists in its annual EY Entrepreneur Of The Year awards.

The included Chris Eigeland and Andrew Barnes, cofounders of the Queensland edtech unicorn Go1.

Last year Go1 doubled its valuation to $2.8 billion after raising $140 million.

Now in its 22nd year, the awards recognise people who have. built and sustain successful, dynamic businesses that leave a lasting positive impact in their communities.

Atlassian cofounders Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar are previous winners.

The judging panel chaired by Shark Tank investor and Greencross founder Dr Glen Richards will chose the winner basked on their entrepreneurial spirit, value creation, strategic direction, innovation, personal integrity, and national and global impact.

“Turning an idea into a working business is an art. It’s about finding the right mix of skills and people to help turn your passion and purpose, and your big vision, into reality,” Dr Richards said.

“Those that do it really well can do it across any industry, any product, any service.

“There’s a Japanese proverb that sums it up nicely: ’Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.’

“This year’s finalists are exceptional examples of leaders who are able to do both, combining vision, passion and action to create their masterpieces.”

As well as an overall winner, this year also features Impact and People’s Choice awards – with a public vote – plus a Champion of Entrepreneurship award.

The winner swill be announced on March 30, with the overall recipient representing Australia at EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year in Monaco in June.

EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Australia leader Justin Howse said it’s more than an awards program.

“For participants it’s a chance to embark on a lifelong journey with an alumni network of like-minded and talented entrepreneurs,” he said.
