I had a few minutes last week to sit down with Jimmy Braimah of Goodtalent, a cool startup in Africa that is working to fix the market for outsourcing talent.
“Initially, we set out to create Goodtalent Corporation as a Technology recruitment agency. When we did our market research and spoke to over 500 companies during the pandemic, their feedback was consistent around building and managing distributed teams, especially during a pandemic and post-pandemic era,” he said. “We have been working on this project since April 2020. We used freelancers initially to build our MVP version in June 2020, and within 4 weeks we had over 500 signups from talents. At that point, I decided to build an in-house team to build our current version which was launched in June of 2022.”
The company is on a mission to transform the way companies source, screen, hire, and pay talent in Africa. Founded by Jimmy Braimah and Obinna Okafor, Goodtalent has already raised funding from the Baobab Network Accelerator, The Alchemist Accelerator, and various angels.
“We are creating an ecosystem where companies can source, screen, hire and pay compliantly in Africa and where talents can build their career, improve their skills and learn,” said Braimah. “We are half the cost with more value for companies.”
Braimah, the CEO, has a background in the recruitment industry and holds a BSc and MBA. Okafor, the CTO, is a seasoned software engineering leader with experience building web and mobile applications for startups across the globe. Together, they have built a platform that focuses on the full life-cycle of talent management, from sourcing and screening to payroll and learning.
Goodtalent is raising a seed round of £1,000,000 ($1,200,000) to build out their team, expand their platform and tech, and set up local entities in key African markets and in Europe. They also plan to build local partnerships and focus on hiring African talent.
One of the key differentiators for Goodtalent is that they are the only platform that focuses on the full life-cycle of talent management, whereas its competitors only focus on certain parts of the process. They are also half the cost of their competitors with more value for companies and are focused on hiring African talent.
Goodtalent has already seen traction, with transaction volume increasing month over month.
Overall, Goodtalent is well-positioned to revolutionize the way companies hire and manage talent in Africa. Given the global changes in talent acquisition, especially rising prices in Central and Eastern Europe, Goodtalent might be a great way to get help for your next dev effort.
