RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Startups and emerging companies in North Carolina have more access to venture capital with the expansion of international firm SixThirty Ventures opening an operation in the Triangle led by a former VC at Durham-based IDEA Fund Partners.
Joe Darcy says he left IDEA Fund after two years but points out the firm is not unknown in the Triangle.
“SixThirty is no stranger to the Triangle ecosystem, as I co-led investments in both Fenris Digital and SortSpoke in the past two years alongside them while I was at IDEA Fund Partners,” he says via email.
Darcy also earned his MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School in Chapel Hill.
In “planting a flag” in the state, SixThirty looks to expand a portfolio of “over 75” companies since launch in 2013. The firm “has a presence in Europe and Asia in addition to the U.S.,” Darcy adds.
Potential investments are not limited in terms of focus.
“SixThirty invests in early-stage companies at the intersection of health, wealth and privacy: technology, data, and socio-economic forces are transforming financial services, healthcare, and privacy, and these forces are converging in the daily lives of both consumers and institutions paving the way for big, bold ideas,” Darcy says. “Our unique platform brings startups together to collaborate with institutions who have the resources and expertise to help bring their ideas to market, creating a force multiplier for both.”
According to his bio, Darcy also has worked Lewis & Clark Ventures, and Techstars. “In addition, he spent over seven years in New York working at financial institutions across the multifamily office, hedge fund, and brokerage spaces.,” his bio adds.
