Historically, bipedal robots have been reserved for research labs. Agility Robotics is starting to change that tune with Digit, a bipedal robot first commercialized in early 2020. The company recently closed a $150 million Series B round to help scale its operation. Agility is targeting real-world applications such as moving totes and packages and unloading trailers at warehouses.
During RoboBusiness, which runs Oct. 19-20 in Santa Clara, Calif., Agility Robotics co-founders Jonathan Hurst and Damion Shelton will discuss how they’re developing Digit to perform useful tasks. On Oct. 20 from 9-9:45 AM, Hurst and Shelton will deliver a keynote called “Building Human-Centric Robots for Real-World Tasks.” Agility Robotics will also demo Digit during the session, as well as on the expo floor, and tease the next version of Digit that is due out this fall.
You can watch the video atop this page to better understand the role Agility Robotics wants Digit to play in the future. Digit is 5 ft. 1 inch (5.55 m) tall and weighs 99 lbs (37 kg). It has a max speed of 3.4 mph (1.5 m/s) and can run for 3 hours doing light work. Doing heavy work, the robot will last 1.5 hours.
RoboBusiness will feature 70-plus exhibitors, 60-plus speakers, a MassRobotics Career Fair and Startup Workshop, the Pitchfire Startup Competition, networking receptions and much more. Full conference passes are $795, while expo-only passes are just $75. Academic discounts are available and academic full conference rates are $295. Register today.
Co-Located Events
RoboBusiness will be co-located with the Field Robotics Engineering Forum, an international conference and exposition designed to provide engineers, engineering management, business professionals and others with information about how to successfully develop and safely deploy the next generation of field robotics systems for operation in wide-ranging, outdoor, dynamic environments. You can check out the current list of speakers, to which more will be added, here.
Also co-located with RoboBusiness is DeviceTalks West, the premier industry event for medical technology professionals, currently in its ninth year. Both events attract engineering and business professionals from a broad range of healthcare and medical technology backgrounds.
