MTN hires Hermann Tischendorf as CTIO for digital and fintech

MTN Group has hired Hermann Tischendorf as chief technology and information officer (CTIO) for digital and fintech.

MTN Group was founded in 1994

Tischendorf joined the emerging markets mobile telecoms operator at the beginning of December. The firm is headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa and operates across Africa and Asia.

MTN Group chief digital and fintech officer Serigne Dioum says the appointment of Tischendorf to the firm’s ‘DigiFin’ team will “accelerate innovative digital and fintech advancements in line with our strategic intent of leading digital solutions for African progress”.

Tischendorf joins from 4Finance Group, where he served as chief technology officer (CTO). Over 30 years in the financial services sector has seen Tischendorf previously occupy senior roles at Vietnamese paytech SmartPay, Kazakhstan’s Eurasian Bank and Russian Standard Bank.

At MTN Group, Tischendorf will work to improve the firm’s mobile payments platform, with a focus on customer engagement, experience, acquisition and loyalty.

He will also be responsible for developing new products and services, building out the nascent ecosystem and scaling up existing revenue streams.
