The City of Gold Coast has partners with Tribe Global Ventures to support 10 Gold Coast-based tech startups to attend London Tech Week in June .
Applications close at midnight on April 9. You can register here.
Tribe Global Ventures is a Brisbane and Adelaide-based VC firm that invests in B2B tech companies in Australia and New Zealand, helping them scale to the UK and USA via a syndicate model, focusing on Seed to Series A rounds.
There’s an information session being held on the Gold Coast on March 29, at 4pm. For those who’d like to attend virtually, there is an online information session on April 4, 12pm.
During the 7-day intensive mission, selected startups will participate in private and public events, meetings, workshops, and networking functions with the aim of building international connections and meeting potential clients, customers, suppliers, and distribution partners.
They’ll also gain insights into the latest technological innovations and global market trends and get guidance on the practical steps needed to expand to the UK, from legal to banking, visas, HR, and funding.
Tribe global CEO Aaron Birkby thinks too many ANZ founders default to going straight to the USA as their first international market without properly understanding other market opportunities.
“For many, the UK is a much smarter choice, with the commonality of common law resulting in a 29% cheaper runway, loads of Government support and incentives, the second-highest level of investment funding globally, and a high density of enterprise and corporates customers clustered in the center of London,” he said.
“I’ve been leading annual missions to London Tech Week for founders and investors since 2016 and without doubt it is the best way to understand and be connected into the UK and EU markets.”
Other benefits include the opportunity to connect with UK investors, startup hubs, programs, and support agencies, build relationships with a cohort of other globally ambitious founders and investors, and access the Tribe Global Ventures network and connections.
The package also includes six nights of accommodation in central London, an Oyster card for unlimited tube and bus travel, a 30+ page UK handbook and mission workbook, a private Slack group for the mission cohort, two pre-mission workshops, one post-mission debrief event, and ‘mission swag.’
To be eligible for the funded place, applicants must: be over 18 years old as of 31 March 2023; be the founder/co-founder of a startup or scale-up based in Gold Coast; able to travel to London and fully participate in all aspects of the mission from 11-17 June 2023; willing to share data and insights in the final report and post-mission event; and able to arrange and pay for their flights, transfers, travel insurance, meals, and other personal travel expenses.
