Accelerator and startup investor Remarkable is holding its Demo Day for the 2022 this Wednesday, July 20, with eight startups from Australia and the US tackling a range of challenges for people with disabilities.
Demo Day concludes Remarkable’s 16-week accelerator program, and gives the founders with ideas ranging from wearable rehabilitation robots to Australia’s first audio tourism platform, a chance to explain how they’re harnessing the power of tech innovation to drive inclusion of people with disability.
Each startup has received $75,000 in seed funding.
Remarkable founder Pete Horsley expanded into the US this year with a pilot program working with 3 US companies in the 2022 group. A full US cohort will kick off in 2023, in partnership with sister organisation Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation (CPARF).
“Remarkable’s Demo Day showcases diverse startups across Tourism, MedTech, Assistive Technology, Smarthome and Fitness Industries while showing the massive opportunities that exist in disability, health and ageing,” Horsley said
“This year, to accommodate the time zones of our global cohort, we’re hosting two screenings of the startup pitches, which will include a chance to connect with the founders.”
The first screening starts at 12pm AEST on July 20 and the second at 1pm. The registration links are here for session one at noon and here for session 2 at 1pm. The online Demo Day event is free and includes captions, sign language interpretation and audio descriptions.
Horsley said it was exciting to work with CPARF on the US pilot program.
“In only a matter of years we have gone from an in-person, Australia-based program, to a global online program, and now we are launching bespoke international programs to further meet market needs,” he said
“The launch of Remarkable US marks an exciting chapter that will allow us to rapidly grow our impact.
“We’d like to say a big thank you to the incredible support we receive from our partners icare NSW, Telstra Foundation and VivCourt, as well as, the newly introduced Remarkable US partners CPARF and SmartJob.”
The global disabled and elderly assistive technology market is predicted to be worth US$32 billion by 2026.
