They’re fast, they’re agile, and they don’t put up with anyone’s bull.
The solo capitalists are winning over founders in a searing private market, where an abundance of capital has helped these people raise small funds for investing. Their funds aren’t especially common, but they’re hard to miss.
For this list, we researched the solo capitalists beating out larger funds for access to hot funding rounds for startups, and we asked them to nominate others. We defined a solo capitalist as a fund manager who raises outside capital and is the only member of the investment team. That’s why you won’t find angels like Joanne Wilson or “sole general partners” like Semil Shah or Harry Stebbings, who hire principals or investing partners at their funds, on this list.
We also leaned on the Advaita Capital investor Gayatri Sarkar, who runs an online community for female investors, called She-VC, to connect us with female solo capitalists who are crushing it — but are too often overlooked, she told Insider.
“We need to elevate more women GPs in our stories and also through our LP checks,” Sarkar said. “We can no longer give the excuse that it is a pipeline problem, while our investment system is excluding almost half of the population.”
Without further adieu, meet the solo capitalists who are shaking up the venture industry.
