Data and information heavily influence healthcare decisions. Hospitals are dealing with a multi-year backlog of deferred procedures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The front-line staff is also overworked and significantly less in number. AI has the ability to transform how hospital data is used to help doctors and institutions perform at their best potential. While AI has immense promise to improve Healthcare, it has only been implemented in a few areas thus far.

Signal 1’s AI platform assists hospitals in addressing these issues by incorporating AI-driven insights into existing workflows, resulting in improved patient outcomes, increased hospital efficiency, and less stress for front-line staff.

CHARTWatch, a real-time patient risk predictor, will be Signal 1’s first application. CHARTWatch accurately predicts which hospital patients are susceptible to risks and which are clinically stable using regularly collected data and machine learning. CHARTWatch’s predictions may be linked to a number of clinical workflows, allowing for earlier treatments, shorter hospital stays, and better patient assignment to front-line workers. CHARTWatch’s been used by St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto since October 2020.

Signal 1 AI tailors its models to each institution’s patient population and clinical processes. It offers an end-to-end AI solution. CHARTWatch delivers patient risk summaries to charge nurses before every shift to appropriately and fairly match patients and staff. Signal1 claims that with their tool CHARTWatch, clinicians were 15% better at predicting which inpatients would deteriorate.

Unity Health Toronto, a leader in clinical AI applications, and Layer 6, a top applied AI startup, teamed up to develop Signal 1. Its mission is to provide clinical AI to hospitals all around the world, using a unique combination of deep clinical understanding and superior AI capabilities.

The startup has raised $10 Million in seed funding led by Inovia Capital. Signal 1 will use these funds to commercialize its AI applications.
