The fintech sector has grown considerably over the past five years, which means there are plenty of opportunities to explore for those considering a move.

We’ve found some exciting opportunities for engineers and analysts below – and there are plenty more to browse on our Job Board too.

Infrastructure Engineer, Starling Bank

Voted Britain’s best bank four years running, Starling Bank is a fully licensed digital challenger offering current and business account products. Headquartered in London, Starling is on a mission to disrupt the banking industry. Since launch in 2014, it has surpassed two million accounts, including over 350,000 business accounts.

With the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive technology company, Starling engineers love building things, creating new stuff, learning new technologies and collaborating across all areas of the business to bring brilliant products and features to life.

As an Infrastructure Engineer at Starling, you’ll be building and supporting infrastructure across AWS, Google Cloud and the company’s physical data centres to support internal operations as well as working with software engineering teams to deliver the infrastructure that drives the Starling Bank business.

You’ll need a strong understanding of TCP/IP networking and experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools as well as experience with Infrastructure as Code and infrastructure provisioning tools (such as Cloudformation and Terraform). In addition, in-depth knowledge of AWS and/or GCP cloud services would be an asset for this role.

Data Analyst, Crowdcube

What’s unique about Crowdcube is that it allows anyone to invest in a business in return for a stake in companies which have included Monzo and Brewdog. Equity-based crowdfunding is a new fundraising model and the minimum investment can be as little as £10. Individuals’ investments are pooled, allowing entrepreneurs to secure funding directly from the general public and bypass that more traditional model of “angel” investors or banks.

Now, thanks to high growth within the company, Crowdcube is looking to grow its data team to help provide agile data across all aspects of the business. It represents a great opportunity for a Data Analyst who is looking to make a move to a varied and interesting role in Europe’s largest equity crowdfunding platform.

The job is based in the company’s Exeter or Cardiff office, and the firm also offers flexible remote working. To apply, you’ll need to have professional experience – preferably in a financial context – and at least one year’s commercial experience in an analyst role. Knowledge of SQL, Excel and Google Sheets is necessary and an understanding of data visualisation tools is also desirable.

With lots of company perks on offer including fitness classes and outings and activities, this role represents a great opportunity.

Python Software Engineer, Hazy

Hazy is the synthetic data platform of choice for financial institutions that want to conduct sophisticated data analysis without compromising safety or speed. Because Hazy’s synthetic data doesn’t contain any real customer information, its customers know they can use it as a safer alternative, allowing them to share data free from governance restrictions across multiple use cases.

Gartner says that 60% of the data used to develop AI and analytics projects will be synthetically generated by 2024, so there’s a lot of scope for a career in the area. Right now, Hazy is looking for a Python Software Engineer to join its world-class engineering team to design and build features and systems.

You’ll need a BSc degree in computer science or engineering with at least three-to-four years as a software engineer or software developer with the ability to develop software in Python. In this role, you will bring your work through the software development life cycle, including code review, testing and performance analysis as you coordinate with internal teams to understand user requirements and provide technical solutions.
