VETCOMM Launches “Hero’s Farewell” Initiative to Honor Homeless Veterans

VETCOMM, a leading provider of innovative solutions for veterans, is proud to announce the launch of the “Hero’s Farewell” initiative, aimed at providing homeless veterans with the dignified end-of-life honors they deserve. Recognizing the profound sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, VETCOMM is starting this program with the city of San Diego, CA.

The Hero’s Farewell initiative aims not only to provide immediate support to homeless veterans who have passed away but also to address the systemic issues contributing to veteran homelessness. VETCOMM believes that by raising awareness and advocating for better treatment and support for veterans, the cycle of homelessness among veterans can be broken. The initiative aligns with VETCOMM’s broader mission of empowering veterans to access the benefits and resources they deserve.

The Hero’s Farewell project is our commitment to ensuring that no homeless veteran is forgotten or overlooked.”

Statistics from the VA indicate that 16.3% of homeless veterans die on the streets, potentially leaving as many as 5,600 veterans without acknowledgment or awareness of their passing. Furthermore, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development estimates that 80% of homeless veterans suffer from mental health issues, including PTSD, exacerbating their plight.

“We cannot turn a blind eye to the challenges faced by homeless veterans,” emphasized Monroe. “These individuals have sacrificed so much for our country, and it is our duty as a society to ensure they receive the support and respect they deserve.”

VETCOMM looks to collaborate with San Diego street teams, veteran groups, law enforcement, and community members to identify and provide farewell ceremonies for homeless veterans who pass away without familial connections. Additionally, VETCOMM will extend invitations to friends, family, and the community to participate in these ceremonies, ensuring that each veteran receives the recognition they deserve.

Inspired by the story of Charlie Connolly, a Vietnam veteran who received a hero’s funeral thanks to the Island Veterans Outreach Center, VETCOMM is committed to ensuring that every homeless veteran receives honor and respect in death.
